Wood is a wonderful and natural material. It will always change colour over time slightly. Do not place an object in a spot where it will be in direct sunlight, this can result in an unbalanced or too much colour change in the wood.
The outside and back of this object is finished with an oil and can simply be wept with a soft (slightly damp) cloth if nececarry. However do not rub or brush the black centre of this piece. It is painted with a very flat/ matt paint which should not be rubbed or touched by 'oily' hands. The black can be blown or carfully brushed with a soft brush when needed.
